Basketball Season and a State Championship

We finished basketball season last month, and I have to admit... I am always glad when this sport's season comes to an end :). It's not that I don't like basketball, and of course I love watching my children play whatever sport they are currently into. It's just that basketball season is extremely time-consuming. Two and sometimes three games a week, and practice on every weekday that we don't have a game (except Wednesdays) makes for a mighty long and busy week. Add to that the fact that I was in charge of the concession stand this season, and you can easily see why I can now breathe a sigh of relief.

I came up with a catchy little slogan to sum up this year's basketball season...

"the thrill of victory ~ the agony of defeat"

The girls won the state championship this year! This game went back and forth the whole game, but our Lady Eagles gained the victory, claiming the GCAA Division 1 State Championship title.

the thrill of victory

State Champions

The Lady Eagles went on to compete in the NACA tournament, held in Dayton, Tennessee, contending for the national title. We made it all the way to the championship game in that tournament, but could not gain the victory, thus coming away as runners-up for the national title.

Unfortunately, our boys weren't able to pull out the victory in the State Championship tournament. They made it all the way through the tournament, to the championship game. Like the girls' game, this game went back and forth and came down to overtime. Our boys gave it their all, but unfortunately, lost by 3 in overtime play.

Part of what makes the loss even sadder is that this is the team we beat for the Region championship. But, I guess the upside to this is, if you have to lose, this is the team to lose to. They are a fine bunch of boys with great attitudes. They had nothing but kind and encouraging words to share with our guys after the game. Yes, they were happy to win, of course. But not the so-happy-I'm-gonna-rub-it-in-your-face kind of victory (like some of the teams we've played).

oh, the agony of defeat

So, our Eagles are state runners-up in the GCAA Division 1. And that's a pretty good record. So, hold your heads up boys; that's nothing to be ashamed of.
