Jelly Bean Flowers

One of the "crafts" we incorporate into our Easter celebration...

One lesson I am continually learning -- never underestimate the importance of family traditions to your children. Case in point: this simple little flower arrangement. My kids are older (my youngest is 12) and I always think that they won't want to continue some of the things that we've done in the past as part of our holiday celebrations. They always prove me wrong :)

A few days ago, they began asking, "Mom, when are we going to do the jelly bean flowers?" I finally remembered to buy the jelly beans today (thanks to my youngest son's reminder).

Red is for the blood He gave
Green is for the grass He made
Yellow is for His sun so bright
Orange is for the edge of night
Black is for the sins we made
White is for the grace He gave
Purple is for His hours of sorrow
Pink is for our new tomorrow.

I think that the red jelly beans are supposed to be on the top, but my children put them in and I didn't have the heart to tell them the beans are in reverse order of the poem :)
